Frequently asked questions
How does a massage session work?
Aim to arrive on time—even a few minutes early helps us start without rushing. I’ll meet you in the Hife lobby (by the pink couches). We’ll talk through your health history (check the contraindications below) and chat about what you need: which areas to focus on, areas to skip, pressure preference. All of it matters.
Then I’ll step out so you can undress and get comfortable on the table. Keep your underwear on. If you’re wearing a bra, you can keep it on (if it fastens in the back) or take it off (your choice). When you’re ready, I’ll come back and drape you with a sheet. Massage begins!
Your privacy comes first. Your chest and crotch area always stay covered. Only the area being massaged is uncovered at any given point. If you prefer, some areas can be massaged through the sheet instead.
Feel free to adjust the temperature anytime (adjustable heated mat, extra blanket…), and tell me if the pressure feels right. The more feedback you give, the better I can make this for you.
The concept of consent is very important to me: I verbally explain the movements I am about to perform (particularly when adjusting the sheet). You may suspend or stop the massage at any time, for any reason.
When we’re done, I’ll help you sit up slowly and offer you water. Take your time getting dressed. I’ll be waiting outside. You’ll pay after the session.
Note: A bit of soreness after the massage is totally normal and usually goes away after a couple of days.
Are there any contraindications to receiving a Swedish massage?
Massage is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Fever
- Active infection (viral, bacterial, etc.)
- Blood clots, vessel inflammation, or heavily calcified arteries
- Contagious or uncomfortable skin conditions
- Recent injuries or acute inflammation
Special situations:
- Pregnancy: Massage is possible, ideally from the second trimester onward. Your belly won’t be massaged.
- Cancer, diabetes, epilepsy: Get your doctor’s green light first
- Very weak or frail: The massage needs to be adapted accordingly
When in doubt, always check with your doctor before booking. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me to discuss your situation.
What are your booking and payment terms?
Book online, by phone, SMS, or email up to 12 hours before your appointment. A deposit is required to secure your booking (€15 for 30- or 60-minute massages; €25 for 90- or 120-minute massages). I will send you a booking confirmation as soon as possible. You pay the rest on-site after your massage via bank card (preferred method), check, or cash.
Sometimes life happens! You can reschedule or cancel your massage free of charge up to 3 days (72 hours) before your appointment without losing your deposit. For late changes or cancellations (less than 3 days prior), the deposit will not be refunded (unless there is proof of “force majeure”). If you fail to show up for your booked session without prior notice, the full cost of the session will be charged.
Running late can also happen. If you are running more than ten minutes late, your session gets trimmed for the same price, to respect the next client.
Check our full Terms & Conditions for details.
Please — if you’re under the weather (cold, fever, cough), remember to cancel so we can both stay healthy!
Why should I get a massage?
The main reason for getting a massage is simple: it feels good! Massage provides a sense of relaxation and well-being that many can attest to. Yet, beyond the immediate pleasure, scientific research increasingly demonstrates the benefits of massage for both body and mind.
Our lifestyles have changed profoundly. Many of us spend the day in front of a screen or in static postures. Even during our free time, we often remain seated. Yet our bodies are designed for movement, not immobility.
This lack of movement leads to muscle tension and stiffness. Daily stress further exacerbates this tension. 80% of the population experiences back pain at least once in their lives, most often linked to muscle tension. As for neck and shoulder tension, it affects almost everyone and often multiple times throughout life! But that is not all. Regular massage is now recognized as a valuable part of maintaining your health and well-being.
What are the effects of massage?
On circulation
Massage significantly improves blood and lymphatic circulation. Professor Ludwig Prokop measured a 1.1°C increase in skin temperature after just 3–4 minutes of massage. Researcher Bell (1964) demonstrated that a 10-minute calf massage doubled blood volume in the area and that this effect lasted for 40 minutes.
On the nervous system
Massage has a measurable calming effect. Studies show that it lowers blood pressure, positively influences the autonomic nervous system, and reduces the secretion of stress hormones. In 1967, Barr and Taslitz observed that a 20-minute back massage slightly lowered blood pressure.
On the muscles
Massage makes muscles more supple and elastic, improves nutrient absorption, and accelerates recovery. Research by Maggiorg Mosso and Rosenthal proves that a fatigued muscle recovers much faster with massage than with rest alone.
On hormones
Swedish professor Kerstin Uvnäs-Moberg demonstrated that touch releases oxytocin, the “feel-good hormone.” This hormone creates a sense of relaxation, lowers the heart rate, and improves our tolerance for discomfort. Studies by the Touch Research Institute confirm that massage improves mood and sleep while reducing feelings of anxiety.
Can I talk during the massage? Stay quiet? Nap?…
Absolutely! Whatever works for you. I encourage you to share what you’re feeling. That feedback helps me do better work: “a bit firmer,” “focus here,” “skip that area.” But you’re also welcome to just zone out, let your thoughts wander, or catch some Z’s. It’s all good.
If I book a 1-hour massage, do I actually get a full hour?
Yes! The time listed is your massage time. You’ll get the full amount. Add about 10 minutes for check-in, getting settled, and that nice “floating back to earth” moment after. For pregnancy massages, add another 10 minutes since we need time to adjust those special cushions as we go—about 20 minutes extra in total.
What’s the minimum age?
Nordiska welcomes everyone 18 and up.
Is the space air-conditioned?
Yes, the entire space is air-conditioned: the massage room, waiting area, and restrooms.
